Jim Would Return for a Mask Sequel on One Condition
08 Jan 2025

By Tommy Pihl (Editor-in-Chief)

When Jim Carrey was promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 3, he told ComicBook.com that he is now considering every project individually rather than retiring altogether. When he was asked about the case of The Mask, Jim said he would reprise the role if the script was right. We would love to see Jim back in this role again.

Jim joked about his paychecks on this press tour, but when asked what it would take for him to put on The Mask again, he answered earnestly. He said:
"Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea. If somebody had the right idea, I guess Its not really about the money. I joke about the money But I never know. You cant be definite about these things. I said Id like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just things tend to change.

The first movie from 1994:
Directed by Chuck Russell, The Mask follows bank teller Stanley (Jim Carrey), who finds a magical wooden mask that turns him into the titular green-faced trickster with the ability to shapeshift and transform his surroundings. Using his powers, Stanley must save his love interest Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz) from mafioso Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene) while evading law enforcement.

Talks around a potential sequel have routinely surfaced in the last 20 years. In fact, an attempt was made to develop the sequel called "Son of the Mask". The movie was released in 2005 without Jim Carrey and starred Jamie Kennedy. However, it failed to capture the spirit of the original and bombed at the box office.
