Carrey Auditions for American Idol!
23 Jan 2012

By Tommy Pihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)

When American Idol's season 11 audition tour made its way to San Diego on last nights episode, there was a contestant who proved she just might be one to watch this season: Jim Carrey's 24 year old daughter, Jane!

Jane Carrey

She tells about Jim Carrey in the pre-recorded video which was shown before her audition:

"It was definitely fun growing up with him as a father, he's not the most extravagant celebrity so it's been fairly normal -- fairly. Everyone growing up has their issue with identity and trying to find themselves," she said. "It is difficult kind of growing up in the shadow of something and trying to find your place in the world under the huge shadow. The last name definitely helps and hurts, I feel like there's kind of this pressure to maybe be better, because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying 'Oh you only got there because of this.' Sometimes, that makes me worse because I'm too nervous to begin with."

Heading into the judges' room to sing for Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Lopez remembered Jane from working with Jim Carrey on "In Living Color" and asked Jane "Do you remember me? I was one of the Fly Girls?!" Jane, told that she barely recalled her. She was just two years old when Jim and Lopez worked together. Here is a photo from the show:

Singing "Something to Talk About" by Bonnie Raitt, Jane convinced the judges she's Hollywood worthy and got yes from them all.

"She's Good," Lopez said. "I like the sound of your voice."

Music producer Randy Jackson agreed. "I like you. I like the voice," said Jackson. "I like the potential."

After her audition she called Jim Carrey to tell him the good news.

"She's so wonderful and amazing to me," Jim Carrey told Ryan Seacrest via speakerphone. "I can't wait for the world to understand what she has inside of her. This is going to be an exciting year!"
