Jim Carrey Appeared on SNL40's Celebrity Jeopardy
16 Feb 2015

By Lucas Allen (Web correspondent)

Last October, we talked about Jim Carrey's history of being on Saturday Night Live including hosting previous shows in March 1996 and January 2011. We talked about the times he auditioned in the 1980s and discussed some of his best sketches on the late-night show. It led up to the Halloween 2014 episode known memorably for his opening Helvis performance of Pecan Pie and the Matthew McConaughey Lincoln commercial spoofs.

Last Sunday night, Jim Carrey returned to Studio 8H along with other celebrities and former cast members for the celebration of the show's 40-year history on SNL 40 for a three and a half hour special. He first appeared during the show's red carpet event when he was interviewed alongside Tina Fey by TODAY show anchors Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. He mostly talks about the auditions and his experiences hosting the show three times. He goes on to joke about the Brian Williams controversy by saying that he would take the story that he was in the copter.

Check our Gallery for many photos from the red carpet and backstage, click here.

Jim was in one of the special's first sketches, which is Celebrity Jeopardy featuring Will Ferrell as the game show host Alex Trebek. Surprisingly, Jim's choice of celebrity for the sketch is Matthew McConaughey for whom he once again effortlessly impersonates. His quiet southern voice is just as funny plus we hear pre-recorded thoughts including wondering if left his Lincoln running. Other contestants in Jeopardy are Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery, Kate McKinnon as Justin Bieber, Alec Baldwin as Tony Bennett, Norm Macdonald as Burt Reynolds, Taran Killam as Christoph Waltz and Kenan Thompson as Bill Cosby.

Afterwards, there's a montage of SNL auditions featuring those that did make it to the show and others that didn't. Jim appeared briefly in the montage where he was doing an impression of Nuclear Elvis. We also see Jim Carrey at the end of the show on stage with all stars in the goodbye scene.

With a calvacade of big star names, it's a fun and hilarious introspective on the history of a funny show. With that said, here's to another 40 years of Saturday Night Live, and maybe another couple of hosting gigs for our beloved Jim. Photos from the show will soon be added in the Gallery click here.
