Jake Lacy Joins Jim Carrey-Produced "I'm Dying Up Here"
21 May 2016

By Eva Arajo (Web correspondent)

In a recent article we have written about Jim Carrey's TV series in which he's one of the executive producers, called "I'm Dying Up Here". The show follows upcoming comedians in LA in the 1970s, who are mentored by "Goldie" (Melissa Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist and nurtures her comedians with tough love. Ari Graynor, Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler, Al Madrigal, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino star as the main stand-ups at the club. Michael Angarano and Clark Duke play ballsy young comedians from Boston who move to L.A. with the hopes of making it big. Alfred Molina, Sebastian Stan, Robert Forster, Jon Daly, Dylan Baker, Brianne Howey, Ginger Gonzaga and Cathy Moriarty guest star.

More recently, actor Jake Lacy has been hired as cast regular, playing a "stand-up comic who gained some notoriety a few years back by blowing off The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on the night he was scheduled to appear. His issues with substance abuse and family tragedy inform his comedy as he tries to re-acclimate into the early '70s L.A. comedy scene. Though not everyone is quick to welcome him back, nor is he interested in conforming to their idea of what comedy is."

Lacy was recently seen opposite Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett in Oscar-nominated "Carol". His additional film credits include "How To Be Single", "Obvious Child", "Intramural and Love", "The Coopers". His upcoming films include "Their Finest Hour and a Half" and John Madden's "Miss Sloane". On the TV side, he's best known for his roles in "Girls", "Better With You", and "The Office".

"I'm Dying Up Here" was written by Dave Flebotte (Masters of Sex, Will & Grace) based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William Knoedelseder. Flebotte executive produces with Carrey, Michael Aguilar and Christina Wayne for Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment. The pilot was directed by Jonathan Levine. The series will shoot in L.A. this fall.

We are very excited about these news. The more we learn about the show and the characters, the more we want to see it!

We at JCO will keep you updated as more news come.
