Jimmy Kimmel Live!
23 May 2017

By Eva Arajo (Web correspondent)

Fans wait what they have to, no matter what kind of project our favourite artist may be doing. It's part of it.

We know Jim Carrey has been away from the spotlight for a while now but that doesn't mean he hasn't been busy. Since the premiere of the Showtime TV series "I'm Dying Up Here" is getting closer by the minute, Jim, as one of the executive producers, has been promoting the show.

Yesterday he was at Jimmy Kimmel Live. Dressed mostly black, Jim walked in the set with the so well known beard he has been wearing for the last year.

After a quick interlude with the audience and as Jim was sitting down, Jimmy asked "'How's life?" as Carrey replied: 'It's so beautiful, it really is. Especially when I'm absent from it."

Asked if he felt away from the world he said: "No,() the opposite. Don't get me wrong, Jim Carrey is a great character and I was lucky to get the part', he quipped. 'But I don't think of that as me anymore."

And then the beard gets mentioned, yet again. As usual Jim gave the perfect answer: "Everywhere I go people talk about the beard', says Jim. 'It's like they can't really think about anything else. It's just not cohesive. There's something different about me and it's that damn beard and wherever I show up it becomes the story. It's a bigger star than me, at this point. It has its own Twitter!"

Then, after his musings about life and the universe, Carrey added in his trademark humor.

"The question is not, 'Why are you growing a beard?' The question is, 'Why am I growing a beard and still shaving my balls?'" he laughed. "It doesn't make any sense."

Speaking of Twitter, Kimmel showed one of the videos Jim shared on his Twitter account that features him feeding a bird. To explain that Jim replied: "I fancied myself a kind of Francis of Assisi type. I did "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and ever since then I've had this connection to the animal world. It was a beautiful thing but then I started scratching a lot and I couldn't sleep at night, I was itching everywhere. I started doing some research and I realised birds are just infested with mites."

That serve as a cue for Kimmel to ask if" the bird hadn't confuse his beard for a nest", offering the services of a crew ship barber to cut it, making the audience laugh and Jim to joke about it.

Finally we see a clip of the show "I'm Dying Up Here" and Jim explains the reasons behind the scenes: "()To me it's like the Big Bang of comedy. It followed Nixon and Watergate and the impeachment all that stuff that was happening back then. There was a need to tell the truth and cut through the baloney and so it created this phenomenon called the Comedy Clubs."

Jim share some moments from his old Comedy Store days as a budding comedian in Hollywood. One of the memories includes hanging out in the parking lot and smoking weed with the comic legend Richard Pryor.

We were passing a joint one night, and he said, Careful with that, I dont remember 40 years of my life,' Carrey recalled. I really got close to him for a while. He was so encouraging, such an amazing person.

Jimmy Kimmel finished the interview by asking about his paints and if that's a primary creative outlet at what Jim responds: "It's one of them".

We see some of his paintings and Jim explaining them.

Such a cool art!
