"Christmas In Whoville"
22 Sep 2000

The winner of Tonos' "Take The Grinch Challenge" has already been disclosed. It was Jeanette Castillo an Indiana native who has been writing song lyrics for more than ten years. Jeanette, along with her husband (a music engineer/producer), also owns a recording studio on Santa Barbara, California.

She found the Challenge by chance through a web search on "lyrics" and couldn't resist giving it a try, having penned "Christmas In Whoville" only two days before the contest's close. On an interview given to Tonos website, Castillo said that "I've been a Grinch fan all my life. I was born in 1960 and the animated film version came out in '63, so it's been a part of my life that whole time."

Jeanette Castillo's lyrics will be sung by Kristen Collins, a 15-year-old from Jackson, Michigan. Kristen was a finalist in Tonos' TV Tryouts and the Tonos A&R staff was so impressed by her vocal talent that chose her to perform the song.

The words to "Christmas In Whoville" were faxed to Collins for the first time on Monday, 18 and on Tuesday she was already flying to LA to start working on the track, alongside veteran Carole Bayer Sager and writers/producers David Foster and Steve Kipner (who also works with pop singer Christina Aguilera).

"Christmas In Whoville", which Kristen thinks is "a cool song. I heard it on the website, and I really liked the melody, and the lyrics are really cute", will not only be on the movie but will also be included on its soundtrack CD.
