SNL Cold Open with Jim Carrey (11/7/20)
08 Nov 2020

By Lucas Allen (Web correspondent)

Last week's Election Day was certainly an event for the American people especially when it dragged on until the winner was eventually announced on Saturday. Not to mention, a sudden winner means that a new cold open will have to be put together as quickly as possible. Fortunately, the elected winner being Joe Biden seems to have made it easier for both the producers and the actors to put a simple opening sketch together.

Jim Carrey comes out knocking this one out of the park bringing the most out of his impersonation while adding more of the comedian's legendary brand of humor. Of course, he used the president-elect's speech on Thursday night as the basis for Biden's speech for humility and togetherness along with mentioning liberal California, conservative Oklahoma, and "cracked-out" Florida. Naturally, Maya Rudolph returns to the stage as vice president-elect Kamala Harris expressing becoming the first black, female vice president. She goes on to say if girls are happy and crying, then they're already drunk.

With Biden as the winner, it would mean Alec Baldwin retiring his Trump character. For now, Trump appears to make a very lousy speech claiming to win the election and that it was rigged. He soon finishes off with a piano rendition of Village People's "Macho Man" though we all know Trump was never macho to begin with. With that said, Biden makes his final proclamation that in this election, there's a winner and there's a loser.

With Carrey, he made it a great opportunity to recreate Ace Ventura with the loser quote. It felt so fitting and triumphant, it's truly laugh-out-loud funny. Here's to three more years of SNL to look forward to.
