Grinchiness tops Box-Office again
04 Dec 2000

As expected, "The Grinch" continued to hold the top position at this weekend's box-office, taking in $27.1 million dollars, which brought its total to $172 million dollars. The second and third spots were maintained as well by "Unbreakable" and "102 Dalmatians".

In a bit of box-office trivia these results rank "The Grinch" as the fifth-highest gross ever for a third weekend, after "Twister", "Titanic", "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace" and "Jurassic Park".

The weekend after Thanksgiving is traditionally very slow, but even so the movie held well and even above the studio's expectancies, with a 48% drop. Next week the Meanie will face competition from "Proof Of Life", starring Meg Ryan and Russel Crowe, "Vertical Limit" with Chris O'Donnell and "Dungeons and Dragons".

"The Grinch" seems also set to become Imagine Entertainment's biggest domestic box-office success, a place held until now by "Liar, Liar", with a $181.4 million result. Considering these figures it's no wonder that Brian Grazer has recently admitted to Entertainment Tonight the possibility of a sequel to the movie. "How The Grinch Stole Easter", maybe? ;-)
