Rumors, rumors, rumors...
12 Jul 1998

The last weeks have been filled with all sorts of rumors regarding possible future parts for Jim Carrey. We will try to list them all and shed some light on what seems to have a chance of happening and what doesn't.

a) Imagining Nathan - A drama directed by the Zucker Brothers ("Airplane", "Top Secret", "Naked Gun") with Jim Carrey and Jodie Foster.

The story revolves around a man (Jim Carrey) who suffers from a rare disease that confines him to his own private fantasy world. Jody Foster was mentioned to play his cool-hearted sister who wants him to undergo an operation that'll change the way he perceives reality. The story is said to go back and forth from reality to totally innovative animation sequences. The movie is apparently going to be produced by Universal, with a tentative date of release set for Christmas 1999.

AICNwas the source for the latest buzz regarding this project, stating that Carreys casting in this movie is nothing more than a rumor and that he is already too busy filming both "Man on the Moon" and "The Incredible Mr. Limpet".

b) "The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy" - Some time ago was reported by Yahoo! News that Jim Carrey was set to star in the $110 million film version of the famous Douglas Adams best seller sci-fi/comedy classic "The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy".

The movie is said to start production next year for a summer 2000 release. Carrey would allegedly play Arthur Dent.

In a scoop later divulged by Dark Horizons, Adams denied the rumor about Carrey playing Dent, being quoted as affirming that "This is pure unfounded speculation, nothing more. It's a long time since journalists thought that checking facts was any part of their job".

c) "The God of Cookery" - According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jim Carrey may be interested in doing a remake of "The God of Cookery", a 1997 Hong Kong slapstick comedy originally written and directed by Stephen Chiau, who also starred in it. Chiau has often been referred to as Hong Kongs answer to Jim Carrey.

Carrey would portray a world-famous, but not very honest cook who fixes culinary contests in order to always win, concealing the fact that he is a totally incompetent Chef. A rejected student eventually turns the tables on him and he has to fight his way back proving his skills in a cook-offtournament which opposes him to his archenemy.

Even if Jim Carrey hasn't committed to do the film yet, rumors say he'll okay it if the script meets with his approval.
