08 Mar 2000 Last February 14, Universal Pictures and Playmates Toys introduced a toy line that will accompany the release of the Jim Carrey starrer, "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas". The presentation took place during Toy Fair 2000 at the New York Armory. The picture below, taken at the event, features what looks like the Whoville town square and gives an idea of the stylistic concept behind the movie.
"Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a live adaptation of the famous children's book by Theodore Geisel and a co-production of Universal Pictures and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment. The main character and plot are being described in the studio's press releases as "a curmudgeonly recluse whose heart is two sizes too small. The Grinch resides in his cave high atop Mt. Crumpit with his dog Max, and plenty of lettuce juice, extra virgin castor oil and sour milk for sustenance. Annoyed by the out-of-control Christmas festivities in Whoville, the Grinch conspires to deprive the Who's of their favorite holiday, but comes to learn that the spirit of Christmas goes much deeper than tinsel and colored lights." According to a source from Playmates, the toys are still in preliminary prototype stages but a description is already available. The line is said to be released next October:
